Whiskey

Published by admin under Alcoholic Drinks

As Scottish and Irish migrants settled on the American continent, they brought with them the distilling methods of scotch whiskey. As they found the new raw materials different from what they were used to, they lead the way for the introduction of new scotch now known merely as whiskey. Today if you can find a similarity between Irish and Scottish whiskey, and its American cousin you would be further ahead than the experts and connoisseurs.

The stronger, fuller and sweeter taste found in the American whiskey is a result of the lack of smoke in the drying process of grains and/or corns. The six different categories that American whiskey is divided into is a direct result of the various aging times and adjusted amounts of grains used in each batch of whiskey.

The six different American brews are bourbon, tennessee, rye, wheat, corn and blended whiskey.

Bourbon is commonly believed to be produced solely in Kentucky, which is a myth.  Bourbon has been produced in many states. Stipulations for bourbon are very simple. It must be produced in the United States, should only be made from fifty-one percent corn, and can only be stored in charred oak barrels for a minimum period of two years. The spirit in its raw form may not exceed eighty percent alcohol by volume.

There are a few differences between Tennessee and Bourbon.  The two drinks are very closely related. Tennessee must always be filtered through sugar maple charcoal, and can only be produced in the state of Tennessee. Currently there are only two brands of Tennessee whiskey available; George Dickel and Jack Daniels.

Generally rye and wheat whiskeys are blended with other products to create other types of whiskeys. Only a small portion of this whiskey is actually bottled. It must be consist of at least fifty-one percent rye in order to be called rye whiskey. The distilling and storing conditions meet the same requirements as in Bourbon. Rye whiskey is made in the states of Kentucky and Indiana. It has a slightly bitter and more powerful taste.

Corn whiskey is another type of whiskey. Due to the large surplus of corn, this was an obvious choice and is the predecessor of Bourbon. Corn corn is the main ingredient with about eighty percent. The difference between corn and Bourbon is that corn does not have to be stored in wood. If it is to be aged it must be done in previous Bourbon barrels or barrels that have been uncharred

The final type of whiskey is Blended American Whiskey. You should not be confused by the differences between Scottish whiskey and American blended whiskey. American whiskey only contains approximately twenty percent of rye and bourbon whiskey while a mass product industrial spirit makes up the other eighty percent. This makes the product very cheap and much lighter than it’s American cousins.

The above article is just a brief introduction to whiskeys. There are a few blogs available online that may be able to provide further information, such as Food and Drink Information. Topics range from gluten free beer to vitamin B17.

How To Store Wine – The Kalorik WCL 20629

Published by admin under Alcoholic Drinks

The temperature at which you keep wine is critical. And clearly the temperature required to preserve red wine is different for white.

So when buying a wine cooling refrigerator, it’s a good idea to opt for what’s called a “dual zone” unit. For example, there’s the Kalorik wcl 20629. In this context, dual zone means there are 2 regions which are able to maintain different temperatures, independent of one another. By doing so, it allows for a broader range of wines to be preserved within the same refrigerator.

With the Kalorik wcl 20629, the temperatures are both managed using a digital display unit. The higher region is built to house white wines, and has a temperature control that ranges from 44 all the way up to 54 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand, the lower is more suited to red and operates between 54 and 64 degrees Fahrenheit instead.

The lighting set up also plays an important role in maintaining the quality of wines. It’s a shame that the lights in some wine cooler units can create warm areas and uneven temperatures throughout the fridge.

Thankfully, the wcl 20629 is well equipped to deal with this. Very little heat is produced by the lights, which are very low power light-emitting-diodes that still do a great job of illuminating the interior. The whole unit runs very efficiently too, needing only the same equivalent power as a 75-watt light bulb.

A third key factor is insulation. Typically, a lot of cool air can escape from the door, but the Kalorik wcl 20629 uses special glass to prevent this from happening. A combination of tinted and double paned tempered glass ensures a steady and cool internal environment for the wines.

What’s more, a fan at the back of this thermoelectric wine cooler ensures that the air flows evenly around the wines, ensuring an steady temperature in each compartment.

When all these factors are combined, it’s easy to see how the Kalorik WCL 20629 works so well in keeping wines at their ideal temperature. And it does all this without making much sound at all, because the only moving parts are the fans as they circulate the cooling air.
